Event Details

Join us for a morning-long professional development seminar on data and its practical uses hosted by the Maine Arts Commission with presentations from SMU DataArts and the New England Foundation for the Arts (NEFA).

The seminar will start by exploring two elements of financial health: financial metrics, and financial projections with SMU DataArts. You will apply concepts in small groups with practice scenarios to help you apply the concepts at your own organization.

Next, we'll zoom out as the New England Foundation for the Arts will walk you through a birds-eye view of the health of the New England creative economy. NEFA supports the live, real-time tracking of the full creative sector (nonprofits included) through CreativeGround, New England’s free online creative community. Periodic commissioned studies like The Jobs in New England’s Creative Economy and Why They Matter use jobs as a metric for the health of the creative sector over time. Dee Schneidman, NEFA’s director of research and creative economy will discuss these resources and how to put them in context with other national and state arts and creative economy data sets.

Finally, we look at putting your data to use after it's been entered into the Cultural Data Profile (CDP). Learn how to use SMU DataArts’ free tools which will help you analyze trends and key metrics for your organization, benchmark against peer organizations, and evaluate your organizational performance.

Parking Information:
